SEPTEMBER 8, 2021 IN HALS

The international theatre group SIREN ENSEMBLE performed a work-in-progress piece, A WOMAN'S JOURNEY, an outdoor performance inspired by the sailing sculptures Life-Boats, in front of the boats at Hals Harbour.

SIREN ENSEMBLE is an international theatre group consisting of five young women. What brought them together as an ensemble was Life-Boats and the inspiration it gave them. They had originally planned to perform in Norway as part of the Life-Boats tour in the summer of 2021, but unfortunately, this was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Despite this, the ensemble chose to continue developing the performance in Denmark, even though it meant covering their own travel expenses. For this project, they only had nine days together, which is why it was presented as a “work-

in-progress” performance.

Students from Asaa School held a themed week on self-portraits in connection with the Life-Boats visit. In groups, the students visited the ships, and several of them wrote down their wishes and memories, which were placed in the chests in Longing and Memories.

Marit Benthe Norheim visited the school and gave a lecture on “understanding the significance of self-portraits on many levels.” The themed week culminated in a beautiful exhibition of the students’ own self-portraits at the Dronninglund Art Center.

The students also decorated the 10th and open figurehead on My Ship is Laden with Memories, which was also displayed in the exhibition. Additionally, 25 of the students painted their portraits directly on the wall in My Ship is Loaded with Life.
