Route over the sea and on the canals of Europe
The ship sculptures can undertake many voyages in the years after they have been launched. On this school map, several possible travel routes have been sketched in, which can be undertaken at different times. One could be a Nordic journey, the other one, in Western Europe and the third an Eastern European canal journey.

The journey in Scandinavia and on the European canals

The launch is planned for the start of June 2013, if financing is received on an ongoing basis.

The journey can be undertaken over the course of many years during the summer season. We will be applying for funding from the EU or EEA for the journeys and the cultural exchanges.

Several possible routes can take place at different times. One could be a Nordic journey, the other an Eastern European and the third a West European canal journey. Our map shows the canals of Europe.

The journey in Norway
The Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen) has expressed a strong wish to use the Life-boats project in Bergen 2013, in relation to the anniversary of Norwegian womens right to vote, and has allready earmarked funds for receiving the sailing sculptures.
The journey in Norway also includes Oslo, and the canals of Telemark.

In Skien, the portal to the Telemark canals, Marit Benthe Norheim have two of her most important sculptures for the public space. “The Rat Maiden”, which was produced for Ibsen’s city of birth and the centenary in 2006, stands on the one side of Hjellevannet and looks towards “Figureheads – Women in the wind”, which she produced for Union/Norske Skogs biological purification plant in 1996. The Telemark regional leader of culture, and the Head of culture in Skien, are both in communication on the collaboration with Life-boats. The Norwegian Marine Museum in Oslo will be an important collaborating partner, as a harbour site in Oslo, and exhibition space.
